City staff gave advisory board members an advance look at plans for Oviedo’s 100th anniversary celebration and a summary of the proposed downtown event and budget approved by council.
Event concept and timing Staff said the main celebration will center on one primary day—Saturday, April 26—but that the city plans to mark the “centennial year” with events throughout the year. The headline downtown event planned for Sunny Park will be family oriented and include a mix of historical exhibits, street performers, multiple music stages with decade‑themed bands, a veterans tribute, a car show, food vendors, and a fireworks and laser finale timed for about 9:00–9:30 p.m. Staff said the city will also run video mapping, photo exhibits and vendor‑led community programming tied to the city’s history.
Budget and sponsorships Staff said council gave consensus to proceed not to exceed $170,000 in city budget support for the signature event. The presentation said the city has already secured roughly $46,000 in sponsorship commitments and that the city is seeking additional sponsors and 100 paid vendors at a target $100 vendor fee. Staff said nonprofits may participate as food vendors at no charge.
Veterans and community programming Staff said a veterans tribute and partnerships with the American Legion are a central component of the planned event, and that challenge coins and giveaways for veterans are included as sponsorship items. Staff also described outreach to local athletes, schools and civic groups to populate exhibits and reunion features tied to the city’s history.
Logistics and outreach The city will use vendor applications, sponsorship packages and online marketing; staff said they have begun a marketing campaign including an initial promotional video posted on the city’s social channels. Staff asked board members to share vendor and sponsor information with community groups and offered to provide links for distribution.
Ending: staff said more event details, vendor application links and outreach materials will be circulated to board members and the public as planning continues.
