City to apply for National Endowment for the Arts grant for Pops concert

The finance committee approved an emergency ordinance Feb. 10 authorizing the mayor to apply for and, if awarded, accept a 2025 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the city’s annual Pops concert.
Director Reardon said the application was brought forward by Macaulay and is a 1:1 matching grant with a submission deadline of Feb. 26; Reardon said the proposed grant request is $23,000 and that the city’s matching portion would be one-half of the award. The application would fund the annual concert proposed for August/September 2026 if awarded; Reardon said awards would not be announced until Nov. 2025 and that she is seeking emergency approval so the city can meet the application deadline.
Law Director Dery and other members asked whether the NEA grant is reimbursable or a reimbursement-only program; Reardon said she is awaiting clarification from Macaulay and is also checking the Ohio Arts Council for other possible funding sources. Committee members approved the emergency-application ordinance so staff can submit the application by the deadline.
The ordinance authorizes the mayor to apply for and accept the NEA grant if offered and was advanced by committee with an emergency clause to meet the application deadline.
