Finance committee certifies delinquent utility charges to county auditor

The finance committee approved a resolution on Feb. 10 authorizing city staff to certify a list of inactive and delinquent public-utility accounts to the Lorain County Auditor’s Office for collection.
Public Works Supervisor Connor presented the list and said the total delinquent amount on the attached list was approximately $21,393.58 and that the resolution had been approved by the board the previous Friday. Committee members asked for clarification about sanitation accounts classed as commercial and requested that staff review why some businesses receive city sanitation service. Safety Service Director and other staff said the city is revising sanitation rules and will incorporate commercial-account definitions into that update.
Committee members asked staff for follow-up on repeatedly delinquent addresses and for more detail about sanitation classifications. The committee then voted to approve the resolution authorizing the certification to the Lorain County Auditor.
