Alamogordo — City staff and commissioners used the Feb. 11 meeting to report several operational updates: FEMA has renewed the city's hazard mitigation plan, the city is holding an extended budget workshop this week, and commissioners announced the annual community cleanup slated for July 18.
Acting City Manager Stephanie told the commission, “Our hazard mitigation plan was finally approved. It had expired, but FEMA gave it back to us and this makes us eligible for assistance should we have an emergency.” She also described a multi-day budget workshop running through the week in which departments are presenting priorities for the 2026 budget.
Cleanup save-the-date and community participation A commissioner representing District 5 announced the city's annual cleanup event for July 18, from 7 a.m. to noon, saying the event will include drop-off locations for bulky waste and a community shredding service. The commissioner said the event typically is sponsored by District 5 and asked other districts to participate; staff said they had discussed inviting Holloman (mentioned as a potential partner) and proposed a friendly competition between city and base participants.
Other local items A commissioner reported presenting a junior fire marshal award and attending Otero County Days in Santa Fe. No public comments were registered for the meeting and the commission approved the consent agenda and minutes.
