Norwich Public Schools to open 'NPS Loft' as a family resource hub; staff and students to run inventory

At the Feb. 11 board meeting, Felicia Brooks, communications and family engagement coordinator, introduced the district’s planned “NPS Loft,” a centralized space to store and distribute donated clothing, hygiene supplies, winter gear, toys and community resource information for Norwich families.
Brooks said the loft is modeled on a student-run program at NFA and will involve Norwich Technical Academy (NTA) students in inventory, organization and day‑to‑day operations. The loft will maintain a bulletin board listing local food pantries and social-service contacts and will be available to school staff who need items for families.
Brooks described volunteer opportunities—classroom assistance, PTO participation, chaperoning and after-school support—and circulated a volunteer-count table showing the number of volunteers affiliated with district schools (as presented at the meeting). She said the loft will accept donations and that principals and family-engagement coordinators at each school will be able to access items for families in need. The NPS Loft is scheduled to open at Rose City School in Room 5 (first floor) once student organizers and inventory procedures are in place.
Ending: Administration said more information will be shared when the loft opens; staff requested donation items and volunteer signups in advance of a formal opening date.
