School committee approves minutes, gifts and a DECA trip; tables high-school SOI for revisions

The Braintree School Committee conducted routine business Monday, Feb. 10, approving minutes, accepting gifts, and approving an overnight high-school trip before pausing a separate MSBA action for further review.
The committee voted unanimously to approve open-session minutes from Jan. 27 and Jan. 30 and executive-session minutes from Jan. 30. Dr. Horak moved the minutes and Ms. Tuffy seconded; the motion carried without opposition.
The committee also accepted multiple gifts to schools listed in the meeting packet (including deposits for BHS testing, DECA-related checks and middle-school trip funds). Dr. Horak moved to accept the gifts and Ms. Tuffy seconded; the vote was unanimous.
A requested overnight trip for Braintree High School DECA students to attend a state conference in Boston (Feb. 27 ' Mar. 1) was approved. The committee recorded that the per-student trip cost included registration and lodging (Sanborn/administration noted $450 as a sample registration plus lodging figure); Dr. Horak moved the trip approval, seconded by Ms. Duffy, and the motion passed unanimously.
On policy, the committee approved an amendment to policy JF (residency) deleting a sentence that would have required students enrolled in district but placed out of district to reestablish residency annually. Ms. Tuffy moved the change and Dr. Horak seconded; the motion was approved unanimously.
Finally, the committee considered a motion to authorize the superintendent to submit a Statement of Interest (SOI) to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for Braintree High School (draft dated Feb. 5, 2025). Committee members discussed edits and timing and ultimately tabled the authorization to permit revisions; the superintendent and mayor's office were asked to return a revised SOI for the March 3 meeting. No SOI authorization vote was taken at this session.
