Chilton County commissioners approve park expansion parcel, new contracts, personnel actions and 25% parks discount for military, first responders and county 직원

The Chilton County Commission voted during its regular meeting to approve a property purchase for Manuka Park expansion, adopt a 25% parks discount for active-duty military, veterans, first responders and county employees, and approve multiple contracts and personnel items including roof and building-improvement contracts for the county animal shelter.

The actions followed motions and seconds from commissioners and passed either unanimously or by recorded tallies where noted. The commission also tabled one reappointment to the Chilton Water Authority pending development of a vetting process for board nominations.

The vote to approve a resolution authorizing purchase of one parcel for Manuka Park expansion was made by Commissioner Perkins and seconded by Commissioner Vaughn; the motion passed unanimously. The commission separately approved the consent agenda, which included payroll changes, personnel actions (promotions and hires), and the surplus and sale of a 2023 Kenworth dump truck via GovDeals; the consent agenda passed unanimously.

The commission appointed Paula Mitchell to the Clanton library board after nominations were closed and a motion to appoint passed unanimously.

On a personnel and pay matter, the commission approved a budgeted pay increase for the county park director effective February 2025; the motion was made by Commissioner Perkins, seconded by Commissioner Bone, and passed unanimously.

The commission approved two contracts for animal-shelter work: a roof-systems contract and a building-improvement contract. The roof contract was moved by Commissioner Childress and seconded by Commissioner Bone; the motion passed unanimously. The building-improvement contract passed on a second by Commissioner Bone and the chairman was authorized to sign both contracts.

The commission also approved a resolution to amend the employee handbook to add rules and responsibilities for caretaking and maintenance of county-issued vehicles. Commissioner Bone moved the resolution to make the policy effective Monday the 17th; a second was recorded and the motion passed unanimously. The handbook amendment was described in the meeting as applying to all county vehicles including dump trucks, cars and pickups.

The commission approved payment of invoices to Thompson Tractor; the motion to pay the invoices was moved by Commissioner Bone and seconded by Commissioner Perkins. Commissioner Childress abstained;…
