The Louisville Municipal School District recognized multiple teachers and one administrator of the year during the board meeting, with principals and program directors presenting awards for classroom leadership and student support.
The recognitions included Jody Duran as an attendance-center teacher of the year; Julie Childs as a teacher of the year at another attendance center; a Louisville High School teacher named by Principal Daniel Turner as the high school’s teacher of the year; a Wilson Elementary teacher identified as Miss Taylor; Island Middle School’s honoree, Carrie Rogers; and Jimmy Rushin, a longtime instructor at the Winston-Littles Career and Technology Center who was also nominated as district teacher of the year. The board also recognized a district administrator of the year, introduced as Miss Webb, principal of Fair Elementary.
Presenters emphasized recipients’ classroom impact, mentoring of colleagues and contributions to extracurricular and career-technical programs. The director of the career and technology center noted the center’s workforce-training program and said graduates from the program have moved directly into jobs. Several principals cited recipients’ leadership in programs such as MTSS, family nights and athletics coaching.
The board applauded each honoree and included the recognition on the meeting record; the honorees remained for the remainder of the meeting before being excused.
The recognitions are ceremonial and do not change personnel status or compensation by themselves; the board recorded the presentations as part of its meeting minutes.
