City awarded $4.1 million for Union Station-area regreening and roadway improvements

The Finance Committee heard that the city has been awarded approximately $4.1 million in federal Community Project Funding for regreening and roadway improvements in the area around Union Station.
Chris (DPW director) told the committee the awarded funds—part of a larger federal allocation for projects in the region—will pay for a set of improvements including bump-outs, drainage upgrades, roadway repairs and new or replacement street trees. The work is expected to cover several corridors around Union Station, including segments of Lyman, Chestnut, Maine and Frank B. Murray streets.
The project is currently being advertised for a designer. DPW staff said the award originated from a congressional office and the work will be coordinated by DPW with input from Parks because of the tree and landscaping elements.
