Council asked staff to assess whether the cable can be removed, whether patching the corrugated pipe is feasible and whether the city could assist with letters from the city attorney to compel action by Suddenlink. Public works staff said a repair could be a straightforward cut-and-replace of a corrugated pipe section and said staff would bring options and cost estimates back to council.
Separately, Mayor Countryman reported on a mayor’s roundtable that invited 13 cities; 6 or 7 attended. One idea discussed was a shared downtown trash-collection program in which businesses would deliver waste to a city-managed bin or fenced enclosure with a shared service and shared cost (potentially billed via water accounts). Waste hauler representatives offered to model capacity and cost; the mayor said city staff and downtown stakeholders would be consulted before any ordinance was drafted. Council listed a trash survey for placement on a future agenda.
