The board received an update on the timetable and community process to name the planned classical school and review associated curriculum and transition plans.
District staff notified the board that a community forum was scheduled for Feb. 12 and that a work group would convene on Feb. 17 with the goal of bringing recommended name(s) to the board prior to the February business meeting. Board members asked whether the work group would present a single recommended name or a slate of finalists; staff said they would forward whatever the work group submits.
Ms. Rosario thanked staff for also circulating proposed curriculum materials tied to the classical program. The preliminary list in the backup included classical curricula commonly used by charter and classical schools: classical math options and Singapore Math for mathematics; Great Books for literature; Explode the Code and an Orton‑Gillingham approach for phonics/reading interventions; New American cursive penmanship and Story of the World for social studies/literature sequencing. Staff said science materials remained under review.
Board members asked staff to provide a revised transition plan so community members can reconcile public materials with the updated K–8 expansion schedule; staff committed to providing an updated plan at the community forum so parents would understand sequencing for feeder pathways and grade additions.
Ending: Staff will convene the community forum and work group on the announced dates, and will return a recommended work group submission to the board in advance of the next business meeting.
