Spokane County commissioner elected chair of regional health board; board appoints Mike Volz as county treasurer

Waldrep said she will "interview [Dr. Alicia Thompson] on the Spokane County spotlight, which will be on KSPS later this month," and that she has been asked to join "a national committee of board of health members as a leader from Washington state" and will travel to Washington, D.C., later this month in that capacity.
The commissioners interviewed three candidates and "appointed Mike Volz as the new county treasurer," Waldrep said. She told the commission that Volz has "over 21 years of experience working in finance and in our county treasurer's office." The appointment fills a vacancy created when Michael Baumgartner was elected to the U.S. Congress, Waldrep said.
Waldrep also summarized recent county activities and site visits: she toured the Spokane County Veterans Service Center in the valley; celebrated the groundbreaking for the RAISE Child Care Center in North Spokane; spoke with master's in social work students at Eastern Washington University; and, with Commissioner Chris Jordan, visited emergency shelters and a new respite center for people experiencing homelessness in Spokane County.
She reminded residents that the county's 20-year comprehensive plan update is ongoing and includes public engagement opportunities on how residents want their county or city to grow.
