Fleming asked whether the county could provide an inspector the small cities could use on a shared or contract basis; commissioners acknowledged budgetary constraints and the difficulty of finding certified inspectors willing to serve rural jurisdictions.
Commissioners discussed the value of adopting a consistent building‑inspection framework across the county to avoid gaps between zoning approval and building code compliance. Staff said the comprehensive plan and potential ordinance updates already consider building‑inspection needs, and committee members encouraged Carbondale to share proposed code language and a list of candidate inspectors.
