Council approves first reading of Fairview Cemetery fee increases

Council members reviewed a proposed fee schedule prepared with input from the city cemetery board and a comparative table that included Sharpsville Cemetery, Greenlawn Cemetery (Greentown), Sunset Memorial (Kokomo), Albright (Kokomo) and Kokomo Memorial Park. The cemetery boards analysis shows the proposed Fairview schedule still falls below the average of the five comparators.
The council received the cemetery board report and then voted to approve the ordinance on first reading after a motion and second; no votes against were recorded.
The ordinance amends Ordinance 2020-14 to replace the prior fee schedule with the updated rates. Council members indicated the cemetery board will continue work on a formal 2025 work plan and fee implementation details.
The ordinance will return for a second reading with any final fee-table formatting and attachments.
