Board meeting highlights: Lions Club poster winners, Kindness Crew award, PTA Reflections and a step-team performance

The King George County School Board recognized community partners and student achievements and heard an instructional highlight from the King George High School step team.
Linda Barron of the Dahlgren Lions Club presented Peace Poster Contest awards developed with King George Middle School art teachers; the club’s district winner proceeds to regional competition and could advance to Lions Club International awards. Barron introduced student participants and identified Abigail as this year’s overall winner. The board applauded the students and teachers involved.
King George Elementary’s Kindness Crew presented a “lifelong member” award to student Delaney DeSantis in recognition of consistent service and leadership since the program began in 2019. The board conducted a photo opportunity with the recipient.
Melissa Lam, president of the King George County Council PTA, presented county-level Reflections winners across divisions and categories and said Virginia PTA has moved to a virtual submission process. The board recognized several listed winners from primary through high school in arts categories.
An instructional highlight featured the King George High School step team. Board members praised the performance; one member asked how long the routine had been practiced and complimented the team’s coordination.
Student representative Savannah Nelson provided an update on athletics and school activities: winter sports seasons concluding, the swim team’s district win and upcoming regional competition, spring-sport conditioning and tryouts, the NJROTC air rifle team’s competition in Alabama and guidance counselor appreciation week. Nelson also noted CTE Month and thanked CTE teachers.
These recognitions and reports were presented without formal board action.
