Parks staff updated the Recreation Commission on infrastructure and capital work: a drainage pipe replacement at Wills Park, near-complete turf installation at Webb Ridge Park, demolition plans for the Mayfield property pending council contract approval and progress on the Encore Gateway and Alpha Loop projects.
Parks staff on the Recreation Commission provided updates on several capital and operations projects, including drainage work at Wills Park, turf installation at Webb Ridge Park, and plans to demolish unsafe structures on the Mayfield property.
Matt, speaking for Park Services, said crews are preparing for spring activities and described a drainage project under Field 5 at Wills Park. Public Works is installing approximately 300 feet of new pipe to replace failing infrastructure and to support future improvements in the upper-field corridor.
Senior operations manager Kurt reported that the Webb Ridge Park upper-field turf installation is about 90% complete, with rain having slowed the final work. He said the turf project’s completion goal had been the end of the month and that contractors may finish earlier. Commissioners confirmed that the turf install timeline was on track.
Kurt also said the Mayfield property—purchased in partnership with the city of Milton—contains unsafe houses and small structures and that council approval of a demolition contract is pending; department staff said the bid process was complete and they expect demolition before June. Kurt estimated roughly 11 structures remain on the property to be removed.
Director Rogers provided updates on other projects: the city completed construction of the community “spotlight” stage at the mall (lighting and sound remain to be finished), the Encore Gateway park is fully funded and slated to start construction in February with an 18-month build schedule, and funding for the Northpointe Parkway was reallocated to extend the Alpha Loop/Alpha Link by about a mile to Encore Parkway. Rogers also reported that requests for qualifications (RFQs) for remaining bond projects at Wills Park, the All Equestrian Center, Union Hill and Old Rucker Farm attracted 61 downloads; a separate equestrian footing RFP is due this month.
Commissioners asked for timelines and construction sequencing; staff provided milestones but did not present final contracts at the meeting. No formal votes were taken on capital contracts during this session.
