House Judiciary committee adopts technical amendments to sentencing-guidelines rule changes, sends bill to floor

Committee members adopted the dash-1 amendment and then voted to move the bill to the House floor with a due-pass recommendation.
“We have dash-1 amendments in front of you which make a very technical change,” said a committee staff presenter during the work session, describing the update as related to the periodic ranking of new and amended crimes on the sentencing grids.
Vice Chair Wallen moved adoption of the dash-1 amendment; the roll was called and the amendment passed. Wallen then moved the bill, as amended, to the floor with a due-pass recommendation; the motion passed on a roll call vote.

The clerk announced the motions passed and Representative Mannix volunteered to carry the bill on the House floor.
The committee did not discuss fiscal impacts for the broader criminal justice system during the work session; the presenter said there was no fiscal or revenue impact to the amendment itself. The director of the Criminal Justice Commission was not available for questions at the meeting and committee leadership offered to set the bill over if members had outstanding questions for the director.
With the committee recommendation recorded, HB 2933 will appear on the House calendar for consideration by the full chamber.
