Planning commission recommends Trina Kingsbury to City Council for appointment

The Planning Commission voted to recommend that the City Council appoint Trina Kingsbury to a vacant seat after interviewing three applicants for a Planning Commission opening.

Trina Kingsbury, one of three interviewees, told commissioners she moved to St. Helens eight years ago and works in supply‑chain roles; she said she enjoys the riverfront and downtown history and was ready to commit time to planning work while between jobs. During her interview she said, “I love the river. I love the history that it has and the the opportunity for growth too.”

Other applicants — including Joshua Walter and Jay Ekternach — also described civic engagement and reasons for seeking the appointment. Commissioners discussed candidates’ preparation, interest in historic preservation, availability to attend meetings and potential fit for the commission. Several commissioners noted Trina’s application packet and interview answers were thorough and that she brought perspectives from the east side of town.

A motion was made and seconded that the commission recommend Trina Kingsbury’s appointment to City Council; the commission voted in favor and staff will forward the recommendation to council for final appointment. Commissioners asked staff and liaison to note a council rule that members appointed to one board generally should not serve simultaneously on another board without a council waiver.
