Fire Chief Ryan Gwen and Lieutenant Steve Smith, 5 A High School’s fire-science instructor, spoke in support of the resolution; Lieutenant Smith said the engine will enable students to practice pump operations, hose evolutions and vehicle familiarization that cannot be replicated with a hydrant alone.
“We want to extend our deepest appreciation…this is more than just a vehicle. It’s a transformative gift that will profoundly impact our students’ education and future careers,” Lieutenant Steve Smith said.
The board also passed Resolution No. 25117 recognizing the county’s 2024 star-performer and star-leader recipients and commending all staff for response during the back-to-back 2024 hurricanes. Both resolutions were moved and seconded on the floor and approved by voice vote.
