Central York schedules March 3 pre‑K summit to align preschool providers on kindergarten readiness

Central York School District plans a pre‑K summit on March 3 to bring local preschool providers together to discuss kindergarten readiness, district staff told the curriculum committee on Feb. 10. The summit is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include district kindergarten teachers, counselors, a behavior coach and literacy coach.
"We're really encouraged by this, and we're we're anxious to see what this bridal," said Dr. Youchef, a district curriculum staff member (quotation as spoken). Staff said they invited about 15 preschool providers that commonly send students to Central York and encouraged providers to bring a director and one or two teachers to the session.
The district said the summit will focus on literacy, math, social‑emotional development, behavior and physical development. An Intermediate Unit representative will attend to speak about early intervention and special education considerations. Staff also said Panther Preschool, run by the district, will be invited to participate; Panther Preschool serves about 20 students per session and typically runs two sessions per semester (about 40 students per semester).
Staff provided a list of invited providers during the meeting, which included Joyful Noise Preschool; Grace Academy Early Education Center; Child Development Center of the York First Church of the Brethren; Little Friends Child Care Center; Eastminster Preschool; Webster Early Learning Center; Keystone Early Learning Academy by Kids and Company; Small Steps Early Learning Center; Still Meadow; Tender Care Daycare; UGrow; The Goddard School; KinderCare; Christmas Addicts; New York's Early Learning Center; and Hayshire UCC. District staff said they will share outcomes from the March 3 summit with the committee following the event.
Committee members expressed support for the plan during the meeting. One committee member said, "I it's just a fantastic plan. It's amazing." Staff described this session as an initial step; next steps will depend on input from providers and district leaders following the summit.
