McAlester Regional Health Center reports growth, staffing changes and cardiovascular expansion

Chris Plunkett, speaking during the public comment period on behalf of McAlester Regional Health Center, updated the council on recent operational changes and growth at the hospital.
Plunkett said the hospital’s rightsizing efforts eliminated over $3 million in agency nursing contracts and allowed the facility to hire more local nursing staff. ‘‘This strategic move has helped us eliminate over $3,000,000 in agency nursing contracts… we are now able to hire more local core nursing staff,’’ he told council.
He said the hospital recently posted its most profitable month in years, that its family medicine clinic grew 23% over six months, and surgery volumes rose about 34% in the same period. Plunkett added the facility’s remodeled space will allow more advanced cardiovascular care locally.
No formal council action followed the update; the remarks were delivered as public comment and were presented as information for the council and the public.
