Environmental health reports uptick in permits, completes retrieval of GPS septic files

The Broadwater County environmental health sanitarian reported on Jan. 27 that permitting activity has increased compared with 2023 but remains lower than 2022 levels, and that inspection coverage exceeds 90% as required under the contract with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
"As far as licensed establishments I was able to reach the 90% plus that's required under contract with the Department of Public Health and Human Services," the sanitarian said. The sanitarian told the board that temporary food permits and subdivision reviews continue and that surveys are still coming in weekly or biweekly.
A major administrative task was completed: retrieving files from a Trimble GPS unit. The sanitarian reported retrieving "120 plus or minus files off the GPS," then redrawing measurements to complete records so files could be stamped with the Board of Health seal. Completing those records will make it easier when property owners or sellers need septic documentation.
The sanitarian also said an annual training for septic installers is scheduled, with roughly 17 attendees committed and several others possible, and that completion of the GPS records will allow staff to resume routine food inspections.
No formal actions were taken on environmental-health items at the meeting; the update was provided as informational.
