Senate passes weekend-adjournment resolution, approves S.9 and introduces multiple bills for committee referral

The Vermont Senate on Monday adopted a joint resolution setting a weekend adjournment, passed S.9 on third reading and conducted first readings for several bills that were referred to committee.
The body adopted JRS 11, “joint resolution relating to weekend adjournment on 02/14/2025,” offered by Senator Behrouz; the president called for the question and the ayes prevailed by voice vote.
On third reading the Senate passed S.9, described on the floor as “an act related to after hour access to orders against ****** assault.” The Senate approved the bill by voice vote.
The floor also included a series of first readings. The following bills were introduced and referred: S.58 (pay-plan requirements for certain state law enforcement officers and firefighters) and S.59 (amendments to Vermont's open meeting law) were referred to the Committee on Government Operations; S.60 (establishing a farm security special fund for weather-related farm losses) was referred to Agriculture; S.61 (automatic opening knives) was referred to Judiciary; S.62 (privatization contracts) was referred to Government Operations; S.63 (modifying duties of the Green Mountain Care Board) was referred to Health & Welfare; S.64 (scope-of-practice changes for optometrists/ophthalmologists) was referred to Health & Welfare; S.65 (energy efficiency utility jurisdiction) was referred to Natural Resources & Energy; and S.66 (motor vehicle noise and exhaust modifications) was referred to Transportation. A House bill, H.34 (workforce leadership in Vermont), was referred to Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs.
The Senate also reported receipt of eight gubernatorial appointments; the full list and committee references were ordered printed in the journal and the appointments were referred to their respective committees for review.
Senate officers closed the floor and the chamber adjourned until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.
