Ralston Public Schools human-resources staff told the board on Feb. 10 that classified staffing is nearly full and that the district is actively interviewing for several certified positions, including a director of student services and secondary instructional-coach roles.
HR staff said many entries on the new-staff list are internal moves rather than external hires and that principals have taken a more active role in group interviewing to match candidates across buildings. Several vacancies remain — notably an industrial-technology/ag acquisition position at the middle school — and the district expects hiring activity to continue through April.
The board also heard that the high school principal search is underway. Administrators have opened candidate surveys and plan a multi-day interview process for finalists that will include tours, meetings with cabinet, staff and students, and a parent interview panel. The job posting remains open through Feb. 21, the district said.
On enrollment, district staff reported a net change compared with the same point last year: while overall enrollment remained steady across most grades, the district has about 91 fewer students than a year ago after accounting for early graduates. The decline was concentrated in 11th and 12th grades (about 30 fewer 11th graders and 22 fewer seniors noted in discussion). Staff said they would continue to audit rosters to remove students who have not attended during the year.
Recruiting strategies discussed include expanding the pool of institutions that provide student teachers — the district currently receives most student teachers from a single institution — and increasing competitive hiring responsiveness to be among the first to offer contracts to candidates.
No formal board action was required; staff said they will return with hiring updates and renewal letters ahead of the March 15 statutory earliest renewal date for certified personnel.
