Miami Beach officials outline tightened spring-break safety measures

Miami Beach Mayor Steven Minor, Police Chief Wayne Jones and city officials on Tuesday outlined a plan of heightened enforcement and access restrictions for this year’s spring break to limit disorder and protect residents and visitors.
The officials said the city will repeat many measures used last year — including DUI checkpoints, license-plate readers (LPRs), restricted beach access, limited visitor parking and higher towing fees — and that state and county partners will provide additional law-enforcement support.
"We are gonna keep people safe. Law and order is the number 1 priority in our city, and there is no compromising on that," Mayor Steven Minor said, describing last year as a turning point in which the city recorded "0 fatalities, 0 shootings, 0 stampedes" and increased hotel occupancy compared with 2023.
