Andrew (parks and recreation staff) said, "you can see we're right on track. We're not over budget by any substantial amount," and described work under way: cabinetry and countertops installed in the administration building, flooring in progress, installation of glass and doors, and office‑furniture deliveries and move‑in scheduled for the last week of February. He added that Building A will be completed "at the end of next week minus the punchlist items."
The pool is advancing, with the slide foundation installed and an installation date scheduled with the manufacturer in March. "The slide has been approved," Andrew said; the manufacturer is expected to install the feature and complete work in about three weeks.
Staff described a separate state review for the facility’s Ninja Cross play structure. "The Ninja Cross . . . needs to be grounded and bonded," Andrew said, and noted the original submission was declined because while the main structure was grounded, some swinging apparatuses still contained conductive metal. He said the manufacturer removed those metal components and replaced them with nylon ropes and high‑density plastic; staff are finishing reengineered drawings to return for Illinois review.
Officials also reported routine construction risks. The gym concrete must reach a specified dryness percentage before final flooring can be placed; if it does not, staff said a drying sealant would be required as a change order. "If it doesn't dry out enough, then they'll have to do a sealant on it, which will be a change order," Andrew said. Staff said the project includes contingency funds to cover weather delays or other construction needs.
On demolition and site prep, staff said the cabin center shutdown and demolition are scheduled: utilities cut on Friday, March 7, demolition beginning Monday, March 10, and expected to take three to four weeks followed by grading and parking‑lot preparation. Asbestos and lead paint issues discovered earlier were mitigated; Andrew said testing of the roof returned negative results and "we're good to go."
Committee members asked follow‑ups about outstanding Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) permits for aquatic features and whether asbestos mitigation uncovered additional hazards; staff answered that the slide foundation and reengineering work address IDPH concerns and that mitigation for asbestos and lead at the cabin center was completed about three weeks earlier.
The update closed with staff saying they will return schedule and budget updates during the committee's regular reporting cycle and that a formal punch‑list walkthrough with the architect and construction manager will be held before final acceptance of Building A.
