District midyear update: Gates Chili cites progress on equity, literacy, mental health and transportation

Superintendent Rob Daley (presenter identified in meeting materials) gave the board a midyear update on two district goals: fostering belonging through equitable, culturally responsive practices and maximizing academic achievement through rigorous instruction and data-driven monitoring.
The district launched ParentSquare earlier this school year and reported active use by nearly 90% of families, the superintendent said. The district continues universal free breakfast and lunch, and it has purchased 10 electric buses to improve air quality; delivery is expected soon, the update said.
Other items included a grading task force to study equitable grading practices, monthly food-pantry support for at least 30 households with plans to expand pantry space under the recently approved capital project, and expansion of mental-health providers in high-need schools. The district also reported a multi-tiered systems-of-support (MTSS) rollout, expanded comprehensive literacy training into secondary grades and a new SEL screening tool administered in grades 3–12.
The update noted a four-day Cultural Responsiveness and Courage (CRC) training reached nearly 250 staff members and that the district is standardizing job descriptions and hiring rubrics to advance equity-focused qualifications. The superintendent closed by offering to take direct questions by email for items requiring follow-up.
