Barrington rolls out short video series as wastewater-plant improvements move forward

The Barrington Village Board on Feb. 10 viewed an introductory video about the village wastewater treatment facility and heard that staff are designing improvements to the plant.
Fred Braun, director of Public Works for the Village of Barrington, introduced the two-minute video and said Public Works and the village communications office produced a series of short videos to explain how Barrington supplies and treats water. "Our department works tirelessly to ensure that the water you drink is of the highest quality, from the moment it enters our system to when it reaches your home," Braun said in the video.
The video explained that the Barrington Community Water System includes supply, treatment, storage and distribution, and that the village draws water from unconfined aquifers; some groundwater may take as long as five years to reach the wells. The video also described the sanitary sewer collection system that sends wastewater from homes and businesses to the village wastewater treatment facility for screening, treatment and disinfection.
Braun told the board the facility treats wastewater from the Village of Barrington and parts of Barrington Hills and Inverness and that staff are currently designing improvements to the plant. The video and follow-up shorts are intended to help residents understand where drinking water comes from and what happens to water after it is used.
Board members praised the video and thanked Public Works and communications staff for producing a short, accessible series rather than a single longer presentation. The board did not take formal action on the plant design during the meeting; staff said design work is ongoing and that future updates will follow as projects progress.
