Hutchinson County commissioners approve Chamber event permits, equipment auctions, jail transport van and file grader insurance claim

Hutchinson County Commissioners Court approved multiple routine requests and purchases during a regular meeting where commissioners signed off on event permits, surplus equipment sales and a sheriff's department vehicle purchase while directing staff to submit an insurance claim for grader damage.

The court approved two facility requests from the Chamber of Commerce: a repeat “Skylines” event at the airport hangar planned for Nov. 1, and a murder-mystery dinner at the Hutchinson County Museum set for Aug. 9. Britsey, a Chamber representative, told the court the hangar event previously drew about 26 people and that the museum dinner “will be a much smaller crowd, approximately 50 people.” Commissioners also voted to waive facility fees and required the Chamber to carry special-event insurance of $3,000,000 and to provide security if alcohol is served. The motion to approve the events and waive fees passed by voice vote.

The court approved a $5,000 continuation bond for Tiffany Phelan, deputy county auditor. The motion to approve the bond carried without recorded opposition.

Road and bridge staff provided lists of surplus items to place on Purple Wave for auction. Dwayne, road and bridge staff, presented three vehicles: a 2002 Chevy fire truck, a 2001 John Deere tractor and a John Deere mower; the court approved sending those items to auction.
