Vice Chair Tara Lawson Reimer on Tuesday presented a motion asking the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to adopt a firearm procurement ordinance that would add vendor verification standards for county purchases of firearms and ammunition, but the board failed to adopt the measure.
County staff described a menu of options that ranged from requiring sworn attestations from gun dealers to requiring vendors to submit documentary proof — for example, licenses, inspection reports and past enforcement actions. County staff said the review was prompted by the board’s October 2024 direction to evaluate 11 possible vendor requirements and by ordinances adopted by other California jurisdictions.
