Houston County proclaims February 2025 Career and Technical Education Month, officials highlight programs

Chairman Brandon Shute of the Houston County Commission on Feb. (date not specified) presented a proclamation declaring February 2025 Career and Technical Education Month and invited students and educators from the Houston County Career Academy to the meeting.
The proclamation, read aloud by Shute, said in part: "I, Brandon Shute, chairman of the Houston County Commission, do hereby proclaim February 2025 as career and technical education month." The commission approved the proclamation by voice vote.
Dr. Chris Kennedy of Houston County Career Academy described CTE as a hands-on approach that builds technical, academic and employability skills. "CTE utilizes hands on learning to help students grow in technical skills, academic knowledge, and employability skills," Kennedy said. He told the commission the students present were presidents of Career and Technical Student Organizations such as DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, HOSA, JROTC, JAGS, SkillsUSA and TSA.
Kennedy said Houston County Schools operate 26 high-school CTE programs and four dual-enrollment programs serving "over 3,000 students." He thanked district staff and county officials for supporting CTE programming.
The proclamation cites state education groups and national organizations that recognize CTE month, and urges students to explore and participate in local CTE offerings.
Representatives from Houston County Schools — including Superintendent Brady White and Josh Robertson, director of secondary education — were acknowledged during the presentation. The commission presented the proclamation to the visiting students and educators at the meeting.
The commission did not set any formal next steps tied to the proclamation; it serves as official recognition of CTE month by the commission.
