Volusia school board approves Erin Boone as assistant principal at University High

The Volusia County School Board unanimously approved Erin Boone as assistant principal of University High School on Feb. 11, 2025, the board said.
Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin recommended Boone for the role, citing her bachelor's degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University, a master's from Grand Canyon University and certifications in educational leadership and multiple subject areas. Galgobin said Boone has taught in Volusia County since 2019 and was serving as administrative dean at University High at the time of the recommendation. If approved by the board, Boone’s start date was listed as Feb. 12, 2025.
Board members asked a few questions about Boone’s background and expressed appreciation that applicants are applying for open roles rather than being assigned. Board member Christa Goodrich made the motion to approve Boone; Donna Brosmer seconded. Chair Jamie Haynes called the vote and the motion passed unanimously. Following the vote, Boone addressed the board and attendees, thanking mentors, family and colleagues who supported her training and career.
The appointment was presented under the board’s administrative appointments item and carried without amendment or abstention. The board did not tie additional conditions to the hire beyond standard district onboarding.
