Lang told the board the court-security grant has supported prior radio purchases and could again help cover most of the expense, and he said the department would attempt to stagger purchases rather than buy the entire fleet at once.
Lang also noted that ballistic vests carried a five-year shelf life and that the current budget cycle includes the last of a three-year purchase schedule for vests; that line should decline in future budgets once the cycle completes. Commissioners thanked Lang for maintaining security in the judicial center; several members observed the facility’s high caseload and the value of reliable communications for safety and operations.
No formal procurement or capital appropriation was adopted at the session; Lang’s requests were presented as part of the department’s budget request and to inform the commission as it reviews fiscal-year spending.
