Board recognizes district staff and child nutrition program for awards and student-made gifts to members

The Limestone County Board of Education recognized school-board appreciation month, presented a superintendent's commendation to educator Monica Hobson and acknowledged the child nutrition program's recent award.

The recognitions highlight district staff accomplishments and student work that support morale and local partnerships.

Board members marked School Board Recognition Month, and staff noted student-made wood coasters with the Limestone County logo produced by Ms. Brianne Wallace's technical design class to thank each board member. The board presented a superintendent's commendation to Monica Hobson, who was selected by the National Space Club, Huntsville, as the 2024 Educator of the Year; the superintendent noted Hobson's 24 years with the district and her work in gifted education and college and career preparation. A student nomination quoted in the meeting said, "The most important and influential thing about Mrs. Hobson is the relationships she builds with her students. She goes above and beyond a normal teacher."

The board also recognized the district's Child Nutrition Program with a superintendent's accommodation after the district received a Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award and an Innovative School Lunch Makeover Award from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service in collaboration with Action for Healthy Kids for improvements at Poplar School. The board noted menu changes that used a local Alabama product (Conecuh Coneca sausage) and locally sourced apples and discussed how the menu change reduced sodium and reintroduced a student-favorite item.

Kaylee Wozniak, CMP director, accepted the accommodation on behalf of the child-nutrition team. The award will be acknowledged later at the National Healthy Meals Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada.
