Staff added that the comprehensive plan update includes new housing legislation, a new climate element and other material that could affect short‑term rental policy.
Several commissioners said they were uncertain whether adding new regulations would solve enforcement problems under current codes and suggested more briefing time. One commissioner said many constituents who live along the canal have complained about short‑term rental neighbors, while others depend on short‑term rentals for income. That commissioner recommended waiting until the comprehensive plan reaches a publishable draft, which staff said is expected before year‑end.
