Council members introduced two newly graduated Shepherdsville police officers, Timothy O’Keefe and Noah Martin, who completed academy training and will begin a 14-week field training period before independent duty. The mayor and council welcomed the officers and thanked staff for recruitment work that began in 2023.
The fire chief presented a 2024 year-end report: the department logged 2,853 incident responses (with significant run overlap), approximately 13,000 training hours across personnel, 532 inspections, 157 reinspections, 282 smoke-detector installs and around 450 pre-plans. The chief reported average medical response time of 4.5 minutes and said the department has purchased two cardiac monitors (one per engine) capable of 12-lead electrocardiograms.
The fire chief said two members recently completed paramedic school and the department is pursuing Class 6 non-transport certification that would allow paramedics to perform advanced procedures on engines before transport; sign-offs require county approvals and the medical director’s (Dr. Goschorn) authorization. The chief also said the department will host active-assailant training and will participate in National Night Out in August as a community outreach event.
Council members praised staffing and training and discussed future needs including patrol presence at parks and long-term staffing as the city grows. Ending: The council asked for follow-up on paramedic certification timelines and to publicly note National Night Out plans.
