District shows progress on Johnson Field athletic complex and next-phase facility renovations

Staff said 16 inches of gravel have been placed as base fill, precast components for the end-zone buildings are installed, and utility work and drainage are in place. Target completion for the first phase remained the first week of August; presenters said permits have gone through and work will continue as weather allows. The project presentation noted the first bid for this phase came in $300,000 under budget.
Project C — the former Ox Gym renovation and new weight room — is out for bid with a Feb. 20 bid date and a planned construction start in late February; staff said the projected duration would run through June 2026, and the renovation will include multiple indoor courts (two wooden courts and one rubber court), batting cages, a walking track, a 4,000-plus-square-foot weight room, renovated locker rooms, band practice space and support/storage areas. The renovation will affect parking and require temporary reallocation of practice space for teams during construction.
Designers and staff discussed security and daily/venue use: an “airlock” vestibule at Door 13 was shown to allow separation of school operations from public event access, and concessions and weight-room access were designed with windows and circulation to support weekend tournaments while keeping other school areas secured. Staff said some activity scheduling and temporary accommodations for teams will be necessary while construction is under way.
