Saco installs two EV chargers at community center; pilot offered free while usage policy is developed

Councilor Hatch, speaking as liaison to the Energy and Sustainability Committee at the Feb. 10 meeting, reported the installation of a two-stall electric-vehicle charging station at the Saco Community Center. The council was told the chargers (described in the presentation as “Lehi 2 chargers”) are the first city-operated public charging stations and are being offered at no cost during a pilot period.
Councilor Hatch said the pilot will inform a future policy and fee schedule; staff will monitor usage and the Energy Committee will receive reports. She said the work was a collaborative interdepartmental effort: public works handled excavation, electrical and paving work, facilities managed the project and the Energy Committee paid for the equipment from capital funds. Councilor Hatch said the pilot was designed to “minimize cost to the taxpayers.”
No formal council vote was required; this report was delivered under committee correspondence. Staff will develop a policy and fees “in the coming months” and will report usage to the Energy and Sustainability Committee.
