City to open new recreation center and outdoor pool Feb. 8; small parade permit and Christmas parade scheduling discussed

City staff and volunteers told the Enterprise City Council work session that the new recreation center and outdoor pool will open to the public at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.

Jonathan said the city had already conducted basketball games at the facility and staff had received "overwhelmingly positive feedback" about the design and early use. The mayor and staff credited parks and public works employees, including Blake and Barry Mott, for their work on the facility.

Erin Grantham, appearing as a permit applicant, asked the council for permission to temporarily close downtown streets for the "world's smallest St. Patrick's Day parade" and a half‑pint 0.5K on a Saturday in March. She told the council the event hours would be about 11:30 a.m. to about 2 p.m. and that she had already shared details with Chief Moore and Captain Kent. "Everything is pretty much the same as it has been over the last 5 years or so," Grantham said.

Council members also discussed a request from the Chamber of Commerce parade committee to swap the city’s Christmas tree lighting and parade dates. Jonathan said the change would not have a monetary impact on the city and that staff or the chamber could administratively manage the date flip if the council had no objection. Councilman Johnson and other committee members expressed support for the scheduling change.

Ending: Staff said they would proceed administratively with the parade and tree‑lighting schedule change unless the council raised objections; permit requests will follow the standard review with the police department.
