Health committee backs legislative requests to raise SNAP minimum and fully fund nutrition programs

The committee said it would remove the Urban Farming Land Initiative Act from the legislative request packet (staff noted that act is already in effect) and focus the city’s legislative priorities on raising the SNAP minimum benefit and securing full funding for HIP/SNAP and Nourish New York. The committee cited request figures presented in the package: a proposed increase to the SNAP minimum benefit (described in the legislative request as a $200 minimum benefit) and full funding for HIP/SNAP and Nourish New York at $75,000,000 each for the State budget.
Committee members moved and seconded the resolution, which passed by voice vote. No municipal financial commitment was requested; the action is a legislative-support resolution to be transmitted to state lawmakers as part of the city’s advocacy.
