House Bill 10‑40, which would add limited rental income from living space into income calculations for the senior-citizen, disabled-individual and veterans property tax exemption program, was reported out of the House Finance Committee with a due‑pass recommendation after a voice vote.
Supporters told the committee the bill helps seniors stay in their homes by allowing them to rent spare rooms and also provides affordable housing options for low‑income tenants. "It keeps them in their home by allowing them to rent out extra space," Representative Partially said during committee discussion.
The bill received no amendments during committee consideration. Vice Chair Street moved that HB 10‑40 be reported out of committee with a due‑pass recommendation; the motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. Committee staff recorded the final tally as 15 ayes and 0 nays. By that vote, "House Bill 10 40 is reported out of committee with a due pass recommendation," the committee chair announced.
Because the committee acted by voice vote and did not add amendments, the bill will proceed in the legislative process with the committee's recommendation. Committee discussion on this item was brief and centered on housing and eldercare benefits rather than technical changes to the exemption language.
The committee moved immediately to its next motion after the tally; no further action on HB 10‑40 took place at that meeting.
