The video showed children identifying subjects and predicates, composing short sentences and using sentence starters; Dr. Balekas noted the class had been in session three months and that the samples were readable and age‑appropriate.
Administrators said the district will roll out the program gradually across grades and that writing structures and common language will be used systemwide to support instruction in multiple disciplines. Board members and administrators described the approach as “back to basics” subject‑predicate work that will be integrated with existing curriculum, and they reported teachers from content areas beyond English — including science and social studies — have signed up for training.
There was no formal action on curriculum adoption at the meeting; the presentation served as an update on a board goal tied to student literacy and the district’s profile of the graduate.
