Rutherford County juvenile board approves minutes, hears staffing and education reports

The Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center board approved the previous meeting’s minutes, reviewed staffing and education reports and recorded two formal approvals, including the changes to the facility’s Standard Operating Procedures on internet access.
Judge Steve Daniels, a board member, reported he had reviewed the prior meeting’s minutes and moved to approve them. Claire Maxwell seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to approve the minutes.
Staff reported open positions including a part-time educational assistant, a full-time male detention officer, and one additional open position described in the packet; staff also said three Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests remain pending paperwork. The facility’s data report listed 15 youths in custody that morning: seven from Rutherford County, three from Williamson County, two from Coffee County, and one each from Gibson, Sumner and Wilson counties.
Eric Davis, the Board of Education’s special education provider referenced in the packet, delivered the education-services report. Staff said a small number of youths required English-as-a-second-language support and that special education services continued to be provided as needed.
