The department said it aims to spay or neuter about 1,000 animals in Calaveras County under the program and that it has reached roughly half that goal so far. Animal Services also announced a county free rabies and microchip clinic scheduled for March 8 at the government center, with additional clinics planned in April, May, June, September and October.
Shelter staff highlighted an upcoming Valentine's adoption event (Saturday at the shelter) and said the facility currently housed more than 40 dogs plus puppies. Staff also reported an older adopted cat, Mimsy, had been matched with a home after a public-access TV video about the animal received about 1,500 views.
