Board approves East Middle School restroom renovation bid using LTFM funds

The Shakopee Public School District School Board on Feb. 10 unanimously approved a Long‑Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM) project to renovate restrooms at East Middle School, awarding the bid to the low bidder identified during the meeting and authorizing the district to proceed.
Bill Manasi, the district’s director of finance, and Ed Zimet, buildings and grounds manager, told the board eight bids were received and the low bid came in below the project estimate. Zimet said construction would begin after school lets out and is expected to be completed during the summer.
The board approved the project by voice vote after a motion by Aldridge and a second by Rolfey. District staff said the LTFM funding source is restricted to deferred maintenance, health and safety upgrades and accessibility work and is not available for classroom instruction or general operations.
No contract dollar amounts were read into the record. District staff said they will execute the contract, begin construction after the school year ends and provide the board with project updates during the construction season.
