Dublin schools set Feb. 14 professional development day to focus on student resilience

Marshhausen said the district views professional development as a way to “train up our teachers so that they can be the very best with your students.” He said the Feb. 14 session will emphasize “building resilience and how we create the student experience that allows us to build resilience in our students.”
The announcement described the district's goal of helping students see setbacks as part of learning. Marshhausen said, “We want them to understand that failure isn't fatal and failure isn't final. Failure is part of growing and building resilience is part of what we do in the Dublin City School District.”
Marshhausen also noted that the Feb. 14 date coincides with Valentine's Day and that the district expects students to be back Tuesday, Feb. 18, after a four-day weekend that includes the Presidents' Day holiday. The statement said professional development days give teachers “the opportunity to train up” and to adopt new practices in their classrooms.
The announcement was delivered as part of an episode of the district's Dublin in the Know program and contained no formal board action or vote.
