The Lake Forest Park Tree Board discussed spring outreach and education plans at its Feb. 5 meeting, including an Arbor Day event at Horizon View, participation in the city Green Fair on March 29 and a planned short presentation or one-page summary for real estate agents at Windermere.
Arbor Day and tree walks
Board members said the Arbor Day activity is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 27, with a 1 p.m. start and a short program plus a half-hour tree walk at Horizon View. The climate-action committee and Secret Garden Tour organizers indicated interest in partnering; Secret Garden organizers plan to show an art project during the event.
Green Fair
Members discussed staffing the March 29 Green Fair (shifts roughly 10 a.m.–2 p.m.) and possible table activities, such as showing samples of holly and ivy for identification, using flip-chart questions or simple polling and displaying maps for neighborhood tree walks. Volunteer sign-ups and materials development were noted as near-term tasks.
Realtor outreach
A board member described an invitation to present to Windermere real estate staff and proposed preparing a one-page summary of local tree rules and benefits to share with agents. Members discussed including existing materials — the brochure developed last year and I-Tree inventory highlights — and suggested asking realtors when in the home-buying process such information would be most useful (pre-listing, escrow or move-in communication). The board agreed that a short code summary and benefits overview would be appropriate for that audience.
Nut graf: The outreach plans aim to publicize the city’s tree code, the value of trees and available resources to residents and real estate professionals before spring planting season and a planned council presentation on Feb. 27.
Ending: Board members will continue planning and will revisit event logistics, volunteer sign-ups and outreach materials at future meetings.
