Committee advances 'Dylan's Law' to improve SUDEP reporting and support for people with epilepsy

A House committee on Oct. 12 advanced House Bill 2013, known as Dylan’s Law, by a 5-0 vote. Chairman Pei presented the bill as an effort to address issues affecting people living with epilepsy, including better reporting of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), education and other statutory changes.
Pei said nearly 41,000 Oklahomans live with epilepsy and that SUDEP is underreported; he described the bill as a working draft open to improvement. A committee member asked about fiscal impact; Pei said he had not seen a fiscal note yet. Another member asked for a concise description of the bill’s goals; Pei said the measure's aims include clarification, education and improved reporting on SUDEP and that other states have considered pieces of this approach.
The committee recorded five ayes and zero nays and declared HB 2013 passed out of committee.
