A House committee on Oct. 12 advanced House Bill 1680 by a vote of 5-0. Roe said sheriffs and sheriff’s departments are incurring overtime, higher vehicle maintenance and fuel costs for juvenile transports, and that the $17-per-hour reimbursement left agencies losing money. The bill would raise the reimbursement to $32 per hour. Roe said the OJA estimated a fiscal impact of approximately $125,000 based on current data.
Committee members did not record additional debate on the record. The committee voted five ayes and zero nays and declared HB 1680 passed out of committee.
