Senate advances bill allowing tagged street-legal UTVs on certain US-designated stretches in Bixby

Senator Guthrie presented Senate Bill 20 to allow street-legal utility vehicles (UTVs) that have been registered and tagged as "street-legal" to operate on sections of US-designated highways inside municipal boundaries where posted speed limits are 50 mph or less. The bill uses a map of the Senator's district (Bixby area) to show which highway segments would be affected.
Senators asked whether city ordinances could still impose restrictions and whether the law would apply only to properly tagged UTVs. Senator Guthrie said cities can continue to adopt ordinances consistent with state statute but that a designated US highway prohibition currently blocks certain intra-city connections; only vehicles that have completed the tagging and affidavit process would be allowed. "You have to go through the tag agency and sign an affidavit that it meets the criteria in order to be tagged," Guthrie said.
Committee members clarified that State Highway 67 (not a US-designated highway) would remain allowed and that the bill's change applies only to US-designated segments posted at 50 mph or less, enabling travel across a bridge and connection between neighborhoods in Bixby. The committee advanced the bill unanimously.
